What to wear for your engagement session

One of the most asked questions from my couples is “what should we wear” and here are my tips.

Once we have decided on a location for your engagement session, consider picking outfits that compliment the spot. If you are taking photos in a downtown setting maybe choose a more dressy outfit. If we’re shooting on the beach maybe forgo the high heels and choose a sensible sandal (or barefoot!).

Make sure your outfit choice reflects you and your significant other. If you don’t typically dress up, wear a ton of makeup, or high heels, consider choosing an outfit that is more reflective of your personality and comfort level. I want you to get your photos back and love what you see and not regret your outfit choices.

Try not to match! Instead of showing up in similar outfits and colors choose a color family and build off of that. I love when my couples mix textures and patterns.

Dress for the season. If you are hot in your sweater and jeans when it is 90 degrees in August it is going to show in your photos.

Don’t overwhelm yourself with multiple outfit changes. Not only does it eat into your photography time but it becomes more about the outfits and less about you and your significant other. I would suggest 1-2 outfit changes max. Maybe choose one dressy and one casual.

Some of my favorite stores for engagement session clothing are Rent the Runway, Lulus, Stitchfix, and Old Navy.
